This device is called the mosquito laser and it was invented by an astrophysicist, Lowell Wood. The reasons behind it invention is simple, to kill as much mosquitoes as possible to prevent malaria from spreading. It was originally introduced in 1980s but not much research had ever been done about this device until decades later.
